Biography[edit | edit source]
Background[edit | edit source]
At some point prior to the events of "Behind the Curtain" (3x07), Vali put out a bounty on Gurge Kisgregg with the requirement that Gurge be brought in alive.[6]
Campaign 3: Bells Hells[edit | edit source]
"Thicker Grows the Meal and Plot" (3x09)[edit | edit source]
Artana Voe gave Vali's name to the party for a price, as she felt he had withheld necessary and relevant information about Gurge in his bounty. Later, Chetney was able to sneak into Vali's office. In there, he found a significant amount of money, a map of trade routes through the Oderan Wilds, and several notes including one referencing the Nightmare King. Chetney also realized Vali's bookcase hid a secret door and was able to open it. The door opened to a staircase going down from the office. Chetney was able to hear a conversation in which someone named Ira Wendagoth asked Vali to bring him some "riff raff from The Steps"[7] as well as a child of the Mahaan houses. Vali refused to bring the child, and returned to his office. When he realized that someone had been in his office, he took an ornamental saber down from the wall and began slashing at the air within the room, at which point Chetney ran for the window and jumped out.
"Ghosts, Dates, and Darker Fates" (3x10)[edit | edit source]
Vali jumped out the window after Chetney and gave chase. He was able to detect Chetney's invisible form due to the rain, and closed in on him, but Chetney was able to successfully convince him that he was a ghost, at which point Vali became frightened and ran away screaming, alerting the wardens. The party later overheard Vali telling several Wardens that he would have to move offices due to the haunting.
Jiana Hexum told Ashton that Vali had connections with the Chandei Quorum.[8]
"A Dance of Deception" (3x13)[edit | edit source]
Vali Dertana was one of the people attending the masquerade ball. There, he had seemingly noticed Ashton's nightmare king mask. He proceeded to talk to Ratanish about this, who in turn approached Ashton.
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Vali appears to owe service or favors to an entity named Ira Wendagoth, whom he considers a "freak".[9]
