Description[edit | edit source]
Trist is a woman in her late 30s with auburn hair that is beginning to gray, and freckles. She is not distinctive in appearance, but has kind eyes.[6]
Biography[edit | edit source]
Downfall[edit | edit source]
Trist arrived in Hawk's Hill with Ayden, as well as her husband, a firbolg named Amaris, and her two children Haylie and Topher. While Amaris offered to purchase emblems of sanctuary to join her on her mission in Aeor she told him to stay behind and she'd return soon.[7] She encouraged her children to play games with other gathered, and said goodbye to her family upon boarding the skyship Venatoria.[8] She looked at them from the deck of the ship until they were out of sight.[9]
In Aeor, upon meeting with their Betrayer God counterparts, Trist warned Ayden about Milo Cowst's deceit. She was the first to argue against the destruction of the city,[10] and she and Ayden remained opposed throughout the discussion.[11] She attempted to heal Zaharzht, but he rejected her attempt, saying he could never find peace here.[12] She also felt that Arcadia Cerenvetorix was possibly hiding something with regards to The Emissary.[13] When the group split on their missions, she and Ayden went with Father Milo and Arcadia to find a way into the Genesis Ward.[14]
Prior to leaving the Chamber of Seasons, while Ayden was praying, Trist realized someone had recently prayed to her in the temple and had a vision of a cloaked woman hiding a book as she prayed for the health of her son, Hallis. She found the hidden book, containing stories from just after the Schism, and Umleta and Emhira were able to trace the boy to a nearby hospital.[15] She, Ayden, Arcadia, and Milo went to the hospital, where they were able to convince a physician to call the boy's mother and let them see him. Hallis's mother, Archmage Cassida Previn, after some suspicion realized that Trist had been sent by the Everlight and revealed a secret symbol of the Everlight below his pillow.[16] Trist healed the boy and Cassida realized she was a mortal avatar, and told her of the plans of the Society of Primes, a faction of archmages working to limit the powers of the Factorum Malleus only to kill the Betrayers.[17]
After the other two groups communicated their situations via Telepathic Bond, Trist and the others in her group were teleported by Cassida to the chamber of the Obtenebrator. There, Trist attacked the machine with Guiding Bolt and cast a smite on the slingshot Topher had given her, though the fight ended before she used it.[18]
Trist was able to get the information of the Genesis Ward passwords from Cassida, but Cassida became extremely angry and upset upon realizing that the Prime Deities did not wish to kill the Betrayer Gods; the Betrayers also became angry upon learning about the Society of Primes.[19] When the avatars went to the Genesis Ward, Trist stayed at the scroll banks until she received a call on her Sending stone from Topher, who told her that Hawk's Hill was being attacked. She asked to speak with Amaris, and told him she wouldn't be returning and to find Haylie and get out with Purvan. [20] Arcadia, noticing this, then told her to go work a miracle if she could at the Factorum Malleus, and Trist left after hugging Umleta.[21] Following SILAHA's Meteor Swarm, she cast Mass Heal on the injured avatars and The Emissary before convincing an Irrevocable Automaton to destroy one of the remaining wards. She then protected The Emissary as the other divine avatars cast destructive spells towards the archmages, dragons, and fiends.[22]
In the moment before the Factorum Malleus exploded, Trist spoke into the Sending Stone, telling her family she was sorry and that she loved them, and used Topher's slingshot to shoot it to Gwessar to kill one of the demons attacking her family, after which her children's divine powers destroyed the rest of the attacking fiends.[23] She then left for the scroll bank, where she found Cassida's body, dead and desecrated.[24] A number of other avatars, some resuming their divine forms, joined her, and Ayden tearfully said to her that he had hoped it wouldn't come to this.[25] Trist stayed in mortal form the longest, restoring Cassida's body though not reviving her, and was comforted by The Raven Queen until she resumed her form as The Everlight.[26]
