The Tribes of Shadycreek Run are four crime families who control the business within the city of Shadycreek Run.

History[edit | edit source]

The Tribes are comprised of four rival families. For almost a century, they governed the city of Shadycreek Run, but their infighting led them to lose this control, though they still dominate most business within the city. Their primary businesses are vice, contraband, and fencing. They maintain their remaining control of the city's population through fear, and still compete and fight with each other.[2] As of 835 PD, they are not in agreement regarding how to interface with the Myriad crime syndicate. The lack of Myriad presence in the city had permitted their own crime empires to flourish, but they had recently begun to reach out to Myriad contacts, though some believed it would be their downfall.[1] All of the families are wanted in the Dwendalian Empire for their crimes, so they mostly deal with intermediaries and contacts on the other side of the border.[3]

Families[edit | edit source]

The four families are the Mardoons, Uttolots, Trebains, and Jagentoths:

The Mardoon family is primarily involved in organized crime and has a number of contacts and alliances, both international and within Wildemount's Myriad. Their primary businesses are gems, brothels, and the slave trade, and they tend to maintain their control through clever contracts, diplomacy, and intimidation, though they are willing to use violence when necessary. The leaders of the family in 835 PD are Lord Anselm Mardoon, Kriemhilde Mardoon, Ophelia Mardoon, Demis Mardoon, and Rufus Mardoon.[2] A few years after 836 PD, when the Gentleman, the leader of the Myriad operations in Zadash, faked his death, Ophelia took the reins over his operation.[5]

The Uttolots are importers and poachers, and control passage through the Quannah Breach that leads to the Empire, giving them a considerable amount of power. Much of their physical force is outsourced to the local Grudge Gang. Their leaders are Lord Milos Uttolot, Mira Uttolot, and Jagoda Uttolot.[2]

The Trebain family is the one most likely to work with mercenaries, and their bases are located outside the city, in the Savalirwood. Much of their business is plunder from Molaesmyr, as well as some control over hunting grounds in the forest. This often puts them in conflict with the Uttolot family, as well as with the Greytrader Union, a faction of reformed criminals with political influence within the city and which includes a number of hunters.[4] The two families and the Greytraders, as a result, often find themselves forming temporary alliances with each other. The leaders of the Trebains are Lord Darko Trebain, Juraj Trebain, Tatia Trebain, and Zorka Trebain.[2]

The Jagentoths are assassins, slave traders (which often leads to conflict with the Mardoons, who also deal in the slave trade), and drug dealers. They have a reputation as the most violent of the families, and public execute those who betray them. They are led by Lady Sulia Jagentoth, Reese Jagentoth, Numa Jagentoth, and Ionos Jagentoth.[2]
