Toramunda is the name for the holy site and city that sits on top of Mount Ygora on the continent of Domunas. It was later split into Cathmoíra and Avalir, but the name is still, as of the time of the Calamity, used to refer to the holy site.
History[edit | edit source]
The Founding[edit | edit source]
During the battles of the Schism, Melora and Pelor sealed two primordials beneath Mount Ygora. These primordials were Rau'shan, the Emperor of Fire; and Ka'Mort, the Empress of Earth.[1][2] The druids of the Gau Drashari then took it upon themselves to protect this holy site.[3] Because of the elementals sealed beneath the mountain, the area had considerable elemental magic.[4] Toramunda also sits at the nexus of three leylines.[5]
The Age of Arcanum[edit | edit source]
Through the work of the Gau Drashari druids, Toramunda became an attractive place to live, and grew into a city.[6] Eventually, 292 years prior to the events of Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, the wizards of that city, led by Imyr Por'co, found brumestone beneath the mountain and asked the druids if they could lift the mountain to create the city of Avalir.[7][8] The Drashari originally refused, but eventually compromised with the wizards on the grounds that Avalir return every seven years for the ritual of Replenishment.[9] The requirements of the druids are codified in the Pact of Crown and Throne, which also states that the city of Avalir must tithe a quarter of its raw magic back to the druids. The majority of this magic goes to the Arboreal Calix, previously known as the Tree of Names.[10]
When the Betrayer Gods returned to Exandria at the beginning of the Calamity, they hoped to raise the primordials from under Toramunda to fight with them against the Prime Deities and mortals.[11] This was prevented by the Ring of Brass, but Toramunda, along with most of Domunas, was destroyed in the process.[12]
Post-Calamity[edit | edit source]
Evontra'vir referred to Toramunda as either being or having a necropolis, which is where the shard of Ka'Mort remained until it was retrieved by Efterin sometime in the late 700s PD.[13]
