What's the most important thing a captain can feel for her crew? Is it trust? Or is it pride?
— Three Earrings[4]
Three Earrings is a tabaxi pirate of the Revelry and captain of the Wavechaser.
Description[edit | edit source]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Three Earrings is a pale white furred tabaxi woman with spots, similar to that of a snow leopard, and has emerald green eyes. She wears several gold rings on her hands. When she smiles, it's described as cheerful but also unsettling.[5]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Three Earrings is incredibly insightful, able to easily read the ideals and flaws of an individual by simply observing them for a short amount of time. She uses this skill to manipulate those around her by coaxing them into taking courses of action that align with her own goals, all while convincing them it was their idea in the first place.[1]
Three Earrings is greedy and selfish in her aspirations, and is willing to put others in harms way and discard them as needed to accomplish them.[1] However, she also shows a sentimental side. She cares for her crew and can grow to even care for those that she planned to otherwise manipulate.[4]
Biography[edit | edit source]
Background[edit | edit source]
At some point, Three Earrings saved the life of Aldageam, a sea elf apothecary in Brokenbank, and the two remained friends afterwards. She also performed a favor for Grimalda, a tortle shaman living on Bisaft Isle, from which Grimalda would owe Three Earrings a favor in turn.[4]
Three Earrings had kept tabs on the Clovis Concord village of Palma Flora and the nearby sahuagin Sharkfeather clan via Revelry informants.[6] Through this, she learned that the sahuagin's new leader, Selachai had come into possession of a Rod of Retribution and planned to lead a raid against Palma Flora. Three Earrings and her crew set course on her ship, the Wavechaser, to be in Palma Flora during the attack in order to plunder the ruins of the town after it was done.[1]
Tide of Retribution[edit | edit source]
When the sahuagin attack commenced during the 835 PD shark hunting festival, the Wavechaser crew was caught unaware when Selachai called upon her patron Uk'otoa to cause an earthquake and sink Flora Isle beneath the sea. Before the Wavechaser escaped, it took aboard an adventuring party and several refugees.[7]
Three Earrings appraised these adventurers and convinced them to help her defeat Selachai and take the Rod of Retribution, promising them 500 gp, a third of the share, for selling the rod on the black market. While she intended to betray the adventurers,[8] after spending time with them aboard the Wavechaser and at port to gather supplies she had grown to take a liking of them and began to rethink her original plan. If the party noticed this, she subtly asked them a question about a captain having trust or pride in their crew. Their answer could convince her not to use them as pawns.[4]
After the Wavechaser was attacked by and successfully repelled the Moonbeam, a Zhelezo ship captained by Lieutenant Commander Voskiir Larth who attempted to arrest Three Earrings,[9] the ship arrived back at Sharkfeather Abyss. There Three Earrings sent the adventurers beneath the waves to battle Selachai and retrieve the Rod of Retribution. When they returned, she would take the rod and either invite the party to join her crew, or betray them and throw them in the brig, depending on her disposition towards the party. In either case, the Wavechaser then set sail for Darktow Isle to find a buyer for the Rod of Retribution.[10]
