The Midst Cosmos
The Midst Cosmos is a series of sci-fi fantasy works created by Third Person. All take place in the Midst setting, characterized by its known universe being divided into the Fold, where it is filled with a tangible darkness composed of microorganism, and the Un, where it is filled with razor sharp mica crystals.
The first two seasons of the original Midst podcast were released independently before the series was acquired by Critical Role Productions. It was re-mastered and re-released by the Metapigeon production company, which further produced the following Moonward filmed miniseries. Dark Horse is also publishing a three-issue comic series.
Third Person[edit | edit source]
Third Person is a performance collective and production studio consisting of Sara Wile, Matt Roen, and Xen. They were initially anonymous throughout the release of Midst.[1] The three first appeared together on camera during "Midst Season 3 Roundtable" (Mx37) and ahead of the premiere of Moonward, a filmed roleplaying miniseries.
Works[edit | edit source]
Midst is an audio podcast and the flagship series of the Midst Cosmos. It is a semi-improvised narrative that ran for three seasons of nineteen episodes each from January 2020 to June 2024. The first two seasons of Midst were released independently before the series was acquired by Critical Role Productions through the Metapigeon production company. They were re-mastered and illustrated video versions of each episode were produced; the first two seasons were re-released and followed by a third season produced entirely by Metapigeon. The series follows three protagonists—Lark, Moc Weepe, and Phineas Thatch—as The Trust takes interest in the islet of Midst, located in the Mediun at the border between the Un and the Fold.[1][2][3]
Moonward is a filmed roleplaying miniseries. Its cast includes Liam O'Brien and Marisha Ray alongside Third Person and consists of four episodes that were released in August 2024. Set after Midst, it follows a small group of people who used to work on Midst's mica moon—Walden Orlok, Fiona Rue, Dusty Rivers, and Vesta Sterling—as they search the Fold for the moon's remains.[4]
The Midst comic series consists of three standalone issues released by Dark Horse between August and December 2024. Each issue features its own creative team and tells various stories at differing points relative to the Midst podcast: Address Unknown is set in the past, The Valorous Famer is set in the present, and Ripples is set in the future.[5][6][7]
