The Gentleman's safe house

This safe house and storage facility is located somewhere north of Berleben in the Labenda Swamp, near the banks of the Ounterloch. The Gentleman uses this facility for hiding and storing assets.

Layout[edit | edit source]

Exterior[edit | edit source]

The safe house is located in a banyan tree in an open clearing. Surrounding the tree is a waist-high pool of water full of sediment, bones, and water-dwelling animals, and the tree itself is thirty to forty feet wide.[1][2] An old teal bandana was tied around a branch ten feet up, but was retrieved by Veth Brenatto. A carved hollow in the tree covered by a piece of driftwood leads into the interior.[3]

Interior[edit | edit source]

The inside of the tree is hollowed out to create a chamber roughly thirty feet wide and twelve feet tall. Though cleared of swamp detritus, the floor is still damp and covered in moss and sand.[4]

History[edit | edit source]

"The Gentleman's Path" (2x19)[edit | edit source]

The hideout was a useful place to lose things or people, until they need to be found. The gentlemen was worried that no shipments had made their way south. After sending Horris Thrym up to Berleben, it was discovered that the safe house and storage facility in the swamp has gone dark. Men went to investigate and never returned.

"Stalker in the Swamp" (2x21)[edit | edit source]

When the Mighty Nein stumbled upon the safe house, they found signs of a fight including dried blood splatters and grooves and gashes dug into the walls and floor.[5]

They also found that the dangling roots in the northern part of the chamber concealed a small hole that descended below the tree into a subterranean tunnel. Moisture from the swamp seeped into the chamber through this hole.[6]
