The Dreamer is a massive crab and the protector of the village of Drobanagos. As an NPC, it is played by Matthew Mercer.
Description[edit | edit source]
The Dreamer is a huge, "nightmarish" crab, 50 feet long and 20 feet high. Its shell is covered in barnacles and the wreckage of ships,[2] as well as runic carvings that glowed during the ritual performed by the sirens.[3] One of its claws is larger, and the other is smaller but sharp and blade-like.[4]
Biography[edit | edit source]
The Dreamer is the protector and namesake of Drobanagos, a village on Athova-Rae in the Shattered Teeth.[5] The Glorious Ones came across it after Bobby Socks was charmed by sirens who lured him into a cave on the island's coast.[2] The sirens were performing a ritual of blood sacrifice to dominate and awaken the Dreamer, but were interrupted by Ranthiel Volthor's Counterspell and were unable to complete it.[6] When combat broke out, Sarge immediately attacked the crab, which awakened it.[7] It then attacked Scanlan,[4] and resisted the sirens' attempt to calm it.[8] Sarge attempted to cut off the eyestalks, temporarily blinding it,[9] but it retaliated and knocked Scanlan unconscious.[10] Once the sirens had been killed, Sarge ate the apple from the Grove of Enlightenment and, imbued with its power, destroyed the crab.[11] The Glorious Ones then brought the meat to the Musetide Festival, where it was eaten,[12] but the party later realized that they had killed the protector of the village when it failed to show at the end of the festival.[13]

The Dreamer is a giant crab who has an enhanced HP pool, Armor Class, and claw damage, which correlates to the description of the Huge giant crab from the 5th edition's Tales of the Yawning Portal adventure module. Huge giant crab has an increased: challenge rating to 8, hit points to 161 (14d12 + 70), and its Strength and Constitution are 20 (+5). It is immune to being charmed, frightened, and paralyzed. It has improved claw attack with higher attack bonus, reach, and damage.[14]
