Ted, short for Theodora, is Opal's twin sister and her warlock patron. As an NPC, she is played by Aabria Iyengar.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Ted is an inch shorter than Opal. She keeps her brown hair in a French braid, and dresses in sensible plan clothing that contrasts with the sparkly, glamorous things Opal wears. Aimee Carrero described her as "Opal without the makeover, without the dye job."[8][9] Ted is much more muscular than Opal.[10]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Before Exandria Unlimited[edit | edit source]

Ted's mother, Paloma, was a member of the Aevilux, a splinter group of Luxon worshipers who found a Luxon beacon "far away" (presumably far from Byroden) and "created magics within themselves" to split their souls so that they can learn about themselves and their purpose through observation, then rejoin the parts of their soul.[11][12] Her daughter's soul was also split in two, and she named the twin halves Georgina (later renamed Opal) and Theodora (known primarily by Ted).[11]

Ted left Byroden only days after Opal did.[3] Ted didn't know where her own body was.[13]

Exandria Unlimited Prime[edit | edit source]

In 842 PD, while taking a rest on the road to the Flamereach Outpost, Opal dreamt of a giant spider, then heard the voice of her twin sister exclaiming. Ted proclaimed she was trying to keep Opal alive, and Opal should get rid of the Circlet of Barbed Vision (patroned by the Spider Queen) because it was evil. They argue, and an angry Opal managed to wake herself up. Next day, when the Crown Keepers entered the Scar of the Cinder King and began approaching a sigil in its center, Opal realized her magic was gone. Opal tried to talk to the sigil, but it was Ted's voice that responds, telling her she would give Opal's magic back, if she apologized. The others overheard Opal's side of the conversation, and Opal explained that it was her twin sister who took away her magic.[14]

Losing consciousness at the end of the fight against forlarren version of Fearne Calloway, Opal found herself in a dark place face to face with Ted, who accused her of being selfish and arrogant about her powers. They argued bitterly, which culminated in Ted saying, "You don't even know what I gave up to give it [Opal's powers] to you". Opal didn't waver, responding she didn't even ask for these powers. At the end, Ted offered to return them to her, if Opal would take care of herself.[15]

When in Byroden, Opal visited her old home and looked into the room she shared with Ted. She thought about her sister, took off her circlet, and left it on Ted's bed. Ted felt the seed of recognition, of purpose, of potential. And the seed began to grow," overpowering "the darkness around and within her.[15]

The following morning, Opal talked to Ted, thanking her for her powers and their return, and asking where Ted was, but there was no answer. Proceeding deeper into Verdant Expanse and discovering an altar of the Wildmother, the Wildmother asked Opal why Ted and she were both here. Opal protested that Ted wasn't present and was here to make a name for herself. The Wildmother told her that Ted indeed was within her, and there were more answers if they just kept going. When they bed down, Opal saw Ted in her dreams asking Ted if she was dead. Ted was confident that she was alive, but unsure where her body was and foggy on her memories before her merger with Opal. Ted also warned her about a woman in purple,[16] who they later realized might be Myr'atta Niselor, the leader of the contingent of Syngornian elves they encountered earlier.[17]

While in Niirdal-Poc, the Crown Keepers were attacked by a group of Syngornian elves led by Myr'atta Niselor. When the final attacker was cornered, she turned and said to Opal, "I will take away everything you hold dear. You don't deserve it!" then cast Dimension Door and disappeared. Opal felt Ted slump into sleep and sensed her magic was gone again. Ted got a vision of "a woman wreathed with purple energy, smiling, grinning, baring her teeth at her." The woman said, "I've been looking for you for so long. And I'm so close. And I will burn the world apart to have you." Ted screamed.[17]

Looking for answers from the people who attacked them, the Crown Keepers went into the ruins of Niirdal-Sarqet. Completing a puzzle and battling through the defences, they saw Myr'atta Niselor pulling out a long spike of metal and residuum and sinking it into the ground. As she did it, Opal felt her body pulled slamming onto the ground, and Myr'atta told Ted she would free her from "this little girl" and together they would change the world.[18] Ted screamed in terror.[19]

Lightning shoots from Myr'atta's hands and the blue miasma surrounding them turns purple as a sigil resembling those at the Scar of the Cinder King began to form. Myr'atta focused on the center of the clearing with her hand out, and the ground began to rumble and erupted with large pseudopods made of dirt, earth and old ruins, held together by the miasma around them, building something strange. Opal realized Ted's screaming was coming from it, and her her connection to Ted started to diminish. With time, the giant shape began to clearly resemble a misshapen head of Ted. When Opal attempted to talk to Ted, the Spider Queen blocked her. Opal tried again, and the massive head said that Ted was not choosing this outcome, but was forced to pull away from Opal, and asked Opal to stop Myr'atta.[19]

Dorian took the residuum they acquired in Emon and tapped it to the residuum needles still in Opal's body. A clear tone was emitted and a new tether was created, which Dorian attached to Ted's giant forehead. They then used the residuum to try to trace the glyph from the ash-blown plateau on its forehead. Opal carved the glyph for "Opal" — sister, family, home, safety, and belonging — onto the massive head. The ritual completed, Ted retreated from the physical world, and Opal could sense her, exhausted but safe.[19]

Campaign 3: Bells Hells[edit | edit source]

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Opal sometimes speaks out loud to Ted, though they are apart. She feels close to Ted, though they made different decisions in life, and Ted is the source of Opal's magical power.[20][21]

Ted is watching Opal from a "low, dark place" "beside and within Opal", and is trying to protect Opal from herself;[22][23] at times she denies Opal use of her magic,[24] and tries to control Opal's dreams.[25]

When the Spider Queen became Opal's patron she took the place of Ted.[26]

Abilities[edit | edit source]

  • Ted is able to absorb a certain amount of damage dealt to Opal[10]
  • Ted is able to cast shield[27]

Appearances and mentions[edit | edit source]

Quotations[edit | edit source]

  • "Sorry is a free action, bitch."[28]
  • "I'm not like you, and I don't shine, but that's okay. I have always been fine being in your shadow. But if you're gone, there's no shadow."[29]
