Appearances
|
Symphior was a planetar who was planted under the Herethis forest to grow and eventually protect the land. However its development was interrupted by the corruption of the land, which made it deformed. It was awakened early by the Myriad's drilling and started terrorizing the mines.[2]
Description[edit | edit source]
Symphior was a cherubic young planetar with gray skin and a withered appearance, but still radiating a celestial glow. Its limbs hung limply at its sides and it had a pair of small, white feathered wings that were tattered and damaged.[3] Its eyes were white and lifeless.[4] Symphior turned into gliter dust after death.[5]
Biography[edit | edit source]
Symphior is "very old and long-dormant" creture in the Herethis platinum mines, but the recent exavations awoken it.[6] As part of a deal with the Myriad, Vox Machina agreed to clear out a Herethis mine of some ancient hostile entity. They discovered this entity to be the awoken Symphior and ankhegs it has attracted. They engaged in combat with the corrupted planetar who successfully controlled the environment around it to its advantage but was eventually felled by the group.[7]
Abilities[edit | edit source]
Symphior lacked many of the defining abilities of a planetar, and instead drew its strength from the land around it.
- Magic Resistance: Advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects.[8]
- Terrifying Scream: Symphior lets out a terrifying scream. On a failed Wisdom save, the target is frightened.[9]
- Innate Spellcasting: Can cast the following without using components.
- Legendary actions
- Cold Snap: The area around a target becomes freezing cold. The target must make a Constitution save (DC >9) or become stunned and take cold damage. On a success they resist the stun and take half damage.[12]
- Lava Burst: Symphior summons a column of lava. Everyone within 10 ft. by 10 ft. area around it must make a Dexterity save (DC 19-21) or take fire damage. They take half damage on a success.[13] The mere proximity to the stream of molten rock deals fire damage.[14]
- Sinkhole: Symphior creates a sinkhole beneath a creature or a number of creatures who must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC >19). On a failure they fall into the hole, taking bludgeoning damage on impact, and the hole seals above them leaving them restrained and suffocating.[15][16]
- Spikes: Symphior transforms the ground beneath a target into spikes. The target must make a Dexterity save or suffer piercing damage. They take half damage on a success.[17]
- Radiant Blast: As a last resort, Symphior unleashes a wave of radiant energy from inside itself in a shockwave, damaging itself in the process. All targets in proximity must make a Constitution save (DC 18-22) or suffer radiant damage, taking half as much on a success.[18]
