Shammel[1][2] is a port city on the Bay of Gifts on the northern coast of Marquet. It is a major trade center as well as a popular tourist attraction. The city is bustling and, as is to be expected in a tourist town, everything is a little more expensive than Vox Machina are used to.[3] The beaches of the Bay of Gifts feature white sands and clear, glittering, turquoise-colored waters. Ships of all sizes make use of the bay, from the smallest fishing vessels to massive cargo ships.[4]

When Vox Machina passed over the city at night in a skyship, it appeared to be a small sparkle in a crescent shape between the base of the Aggrad Mountains and the Bay of Gifts.[5]

Notable locations[edit | edit source]

  • Dalen's Closet: A beach resort in Shammel, run by a halfling named Guath. This was where Vox Machina stayed during their Winter's Crest vacation in "One Year Later..." (1x95), and where Percival and Vex'ahlia's destination wedding was to take place.[6] The resort is nice but not busy, and features a beach of hammocks next to a wide, single-story tavern.[7]
    • The Perfect Pearl, a large, single-story tavern in the Dalen's Closet.[8]
  • A small boutique in the city was where Pike had her hair beaded and colored blue.

History[edit | edit source]

"One Year Later..." (1x95)[edit | edit source]

Vox Machina chartered a ship from Emon to Shammel for a Winter's Crest vacation. They stayed at Dalen's Closet, where they booked rooms for ten nights. The party enjoyed their time there, relaxing on the beach and engaging in a heated prank war that ended with the manager being contacted, and Vex and Percy getting moved to a new hotel room. Before they left, Grog told Pike about his Deck of Many Things, and they flipped a coin to determine if they should pull a card or not. The coin indicated that they shouldn't, so they did not draw a card, and made a deal that if Grog ever does decide to pull a card, he would come to her and not pull the card alone.

"Dalen's Closet" (OSx33)[edit | edit source]

Vox Machina and friends returned to Dalen's Closet to host Vex and Percy's official wedding. 150 guests were invited, although the couple were hoping that most wouldn't attend. On the night before the planned date, the party held a rehearsal dinner, with the most important guests present. The wine was drugged, almost all of the guests were knocked unconscious, and Percy and Vex were kidnapped by Sylas Briarwood. The two were thrown off a cliff into the ocean, while the rest of the guests regained their bearings and stabilized themselves. As soon as they realized the bride and groom were missing, they raced after them. Vex'ahlia drowned before the party could reach them, but was quickly revived by Pike. The party then fought off Sylas and his vampires, Vex landing the killing blow. The couple then decided to host the wedding then and there, as the most important guests were present. As part of the ceremony, Scanlan cast Wish to allow Vax'ildan to speak to Vex on her wedding day.

"A Walk to Warmer Welcomes" (2x124)[edit | edit source]

Dagen Underthorn told Beauregard Lionett that he had plans to retire in Shammel Bay.[9]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • One of the T-shirt designs offered by Geek & Sundry features Dalen's Closet, with Vex and Trinket chasing Vax on the beach.
  • "Shamal", the spelling used to refer to Shammel in all transcripts from the first two campaigns,[10][11] is the Arabic word for "North" or "the North Wind", fitting for a port city located in northern Marquet.
