The Shalesteps are a group of small, interconnected villages located in the Seashale Mountains, just northwest of Emon and near the Seashale Mountains.[2]
Society[edit | edit source]
Those who live in the Shalesteps prefer to live outside Emon, but close enough to enjoy the protection and supplies offered by the large city. They enjoy a simple life of fishing in the ocean and the Nightwash lagoon that pierces the Seashale Mountains, or hunting in the mountains, although they do at times face dangerous creatures from the sea or from the mountains in which they live. One of the villages is named Puddlefoot.[1][2]
In 836 PD, as a part of From Hell's Heart adventure hook from Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, a dead white whale was washed onto the shore of the village of Puddlefoot. It was greatly corruption and covered oozing green lesions. Rill the Hermit, one of the residents, claimed to have seen "tall shadows spying on Puddlefoot from the mountain peaks",[1] which may be connected to the whale corruption.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
In 812 PD, the Shalesteps had a population of 456. 40% were humans, 30% were halflings, and 30% were dwarves.[2]
By 836 PD, the population had increased to 770.[fn 1][1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Shalesteps were originally designed for the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting and were not visited during the pre-stream portion of Campaign 1.[3] They were mislabeled as the "Shadesteps" on the official Tal'Dorei map by Andy Law in the original Tal'Dorei sourcebook. This was corrected in the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn.

Notes
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The percentages present in Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn are "40% humans, 35% halflings, 32% dwarves, 3% other races", which adds up to 110% and must be an error. It is possible that the percentage of humans was meant to be decreased to 30% to account for the increase in other populations, but was missed in editing.
