Nugget is a blink dog and Jester and Beau's, and later Luc Brenatto's, pet.

As an NPC, Nugget is played by Matthew Mercer. As a PC in "A Familiar Problem: Sprinkle's Incredible Journey" (OSx48), he is played by Laura Bailey.

Description[edit | edit source]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

When he was adopted, Nugget was a tiny little puppy. His coat has hints of calico, with light tan fur and bits of faintly darker brown stripes. He has oversized puppy paws that look soft and goofy, and ears that are tall and pointed, but wide at the base. Signs of Nugget's fey nature can be seen in the blink dog's unnaturally angular limbs. Nugget's eyes are black, but turn to a bright blue just before teleporting.[3]

As of "Homeward Bound" (2x48), Nugget had grown up considerably. Though still a young blink dog, he was about as large as a fully grown conventional dog.[4]

By the end of the campaign, Nugget was nearly full-grown.[5]

Personality[edit | edit source]

When Nugget gets too excited, he teleports. As a puppy, Nugget is rambunctious. Jester had to begin training him right away to recognize the Mighty Nein as "home".[6]

Biography[edit | edit source]

"Beyond the Boundaries" (2x32)[edit | edit source]

Jester was immediately enamored with Nugget, so she split the cost of 100 gp that Kestiff Drudy asked for with Beau. That way, they could have a pet together, and it could share their room whenever they roomed together.

"The Ruby and the Sapphire" (2x33)[edit | edit source]

When the Mighty Nein relaxed on the beach on their way to Nicodranas, Jester spent two hours training Nugget to blink on-command, after hearing the command word "poof".

"Encroaching Waters" (2x34)[edit | edit source]

Nugget struggled during the extensive swimming required to reach the Sluice Weave .

"Dockside Diplomacy" (2x35)[edit | edit source]

After the Nein finished their business under the city, Jester left Nugget in her mother's care prior to Marius LePual's midnight meeting on the wharf. Nugget remained in Marion's care when the Nein stole the Mist.

"A Familiar Problem: Sprinkle's Incredible Journey" (OSx48)[edit | edit source]

This one-shot was depicted as concurrent with "Dockside Diplomacy" (2x35), and Nugget was depicted as a young puppy, mostly interested in eating strange things, and not in control of his teleportation.[7] Nugget teleported to Sprinkle after Sprinkle was separated from the Mighty Nein, and joined him and CLAPP, Toby, and Joanne on their various adventures.[8] He, along with Sprinkle, was targeted by Professor Thaddeus as they had seen him locked up and vulnerable,[9] but managed to escape to safety. Nugget was left behind in Nicodranas when the rest of the party left on the boat, presumably to return to the Lavish Chateau.[10]

"O Captain, Who's Captain?" (2x36)[edit | edit source]

Jester, via Sending, asked her mother to take care of Nugget, which Marion was happy to do.

"Homeward Bound" (2x48)[edit | edit source]

After the Mighty Nein's return to Nicodranas, Jester took Nugget with her and Marion seemed eager to be rid of him (as the dog had grown considerably since their departure).

"Duplicity" (2x55)[edit | edit source]

Nugget was knocked unconscious from Caleb's Fireball spell. He was saved by Caduceus, who used the cantrip Spare the Dying to save him.

"Wood and Steel" (2x58)[edit | edit source]

When the Mighty Nein traveled to the Deepriver Mining Camp to deal with the stone giants, Nugget (and Sprinkle) remained with Yeza Brenatto at the Dim's Inn to keep him company.

"Domestic Respite" (2x62)[edit | edit source]

Nugget was designated as a 'Guard Nugget' by Jester and he was allowed to share her and Beau's bedroom, although Jester decided that he would also sleep on the balcony patio. Beau insisted that he was not allowed on her bed due to his drooling.

"A Dangerous Chase" (2x64)[edit | edit source]

Once again, Nugget remained with Yeza at the Xhorhaus when they set off to follow Obann to Bazzoxan in the north.

"Family Gathering" (2x71)[edit | edit source]

The Mighty Nein and Yeza Brenatto teleported from Rosohna to Nicodranas to drop Yeza off with Marion Lavorre. Jester left Nugget for Luc Brenatto to take care of.[11]

Relationships[edit | edit source]

  • Jester Lavorre: Co-owner. She takes more interest in Nugget and has attempted to train him.
  • Beauregard Lionett: Co-owner. Given that Jester seems to have a greater interest in training and bonding with Nugget, Beau has allowed her to take most of the responsibility for him.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

  • Keen Hearing and Smell: Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell[1]
  • Teleport: The Nugget magically teleports (along with any equipment he is wearing or carrying) up to 20 ft. to an unoccupied space he can see. Before or after teleportation, Nugget can make one Bite attack.[12]
    • "Poof": Jester's command word to get Nugget to Teleport.[13]
