The Magisterium is Avalir's parliament of magical law. It is comprised of 380 magisters and is divided into eight bodies, each of which is represented by a Speaker of the Throne. The Magisterium maintains a library of magical law, and the Eyes of Avalir work for the Magisterium.
Description[edit | edit source]
Among the Magisterium's duties are maintaining the city of Avalir's promises, including the Pact of Crown and Throne.[1] It comprises 380 magisters and is divided into eight magisterial bodies, each of which has a vote and is represented by a Speaker.[2] The Magisterium also maintains the Librarium Magisterium, a library of magical law.[3][4] The Eyes of Avalir are under the purview of the Magisterium.[5]
The Golden Scythe supplies the Magisterium with various supplies, including wands.[6]
Librarium Magisterium[edit | edit source]
The Librarium Magisterium, from which the Magisterum works, has massive doors that open into a large, marble[7] double staircase, which leads up to a circular parliament room full of thrones surrounding the eight high thrones held by the eight Speakers.[8] Elsewhere in the building are private offices for the magisters.[9] Statues, some of spell knights, are in the halls.[10]
Magister Cormorant's office[edit | edit source]
Magister Cormorant's office in the building has a deep red, polished wooden door and a gold doorknob.[11] The interior includes a fireplace and teleportation daises.[12]
History[edit | edit source]
Exandria Unlimited: Calamity[edit | edit source]
When Loras asked Patia to learn more about the Vespin Chloras case, he told her that the Magisterium did not need to be informed of Cerrit's findings, despite that being the normal chain of authority, instead telling her to contact the Octothurge.[13]
After Laerryn and Patia realized that Magister Cormorant had been conspiring with Lacrytia Hollow, and because Laerryn needed information about the city's magical law, they went to the headquarters.[14] There, they broke down Magister Cormorant's door and killed him before investigating his office. They found evidence that he had been providing illegal entry into the city, and that he had been reviewing documentation on Laerryn's experiments and the Tree of Names.[15]
Members[edit | edit source]
- Micah Cormorant: Speaker of the Fourth.[16]
- Guisaria Lucerid: Speaker of the Seventh.[17]
- Lacrytia Hollow: Magister; also a member of the Ring of Silver, the Octothurge, and Dean of the College of Necromancy.[18]
- Milus Phren: A low-level magister who asked Nydas Okiro about an off-the-books transfer of surplus magical energy[19]
