Kylre is a nergaliid, and formerly a member of The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities. As an NPC, Kylre is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[edit | edit source]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Kylre is an enormous, corpulent creature with green scales, slimy skin, toad-like legs, and muscular arms.[4] Along the brow line he has a series of small breathing holes full of mucus he produces.[5] When using his Life Drain attack, his eyes look like burning coals.[6] To those unaware of his fiendish nature, he appear like an obese lizard man. He is allegedly bipedal, but has a hunted posture and uses his forearms for support.[4]

After his death, toad's skin was like rubbery blubber.[5] Kylre was so large and heavy that his head alone required two to three people to carry.[7]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Kylre had a large roar[8] speaking in a deep, slow voice. Although he could speak Common, he rarely did. Before he became hostile to the party, he spoke in brusque, incomplete phrases, moslty communicating with Toya.[9] During the carnival performance, Kylre was "soothed" by Toya's song. When Enon Brinjay became a husk, Kylre appeared surprised and swiftly carried Toya out of the tent.[10]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Before Campaign 2[edit | edit source]

Kylre joined The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities at some point between Toya's and Mollymauk's arrival. In this time, he and Toya formed an act. Kylre told the carnival that he was one of the lizardfolk, which they did not seem to question.[11]

At a time when the carnival was not doing well, Kylre offered Gustav Fletching a deal, where could make the carnival "something great", but Gustav would have to bring him people to eat. Gustav wasn't willing to give him just anyone, but did offer to bring the elderly and infirm after each show.[12]

Campaign 2: The Mighty Nein[edit | edit source]

During a Grissen show in Trostenwald, Kylre performed his act with Toya. During the act, he drained the life from an elderly man to the point that he turned into a husk zombie.[13] As the tent plunged into chaos, Kylre grabbed Toya and took her to safety,[14] and the Mighty Nein dealth with both the original husk zombie and a woman turned by the elderly zombie.

When the Nein came to the common area of the carnival to investigate, Kylre fled the scene with Toya.[15] During the escape, he turned the two guarding Crownsguards into husks to cover his retreat.[16] Kylre had escaped to the small island[17] of Crookedstone in the Ustaloch.[18] The Nein sailed to the island during the night[19] and successfully defeated Kylre.[5] They took his head as a proof for the authorities, and to close their investigation.[20][21]

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Toya[edit | edit source]

Kylre held Toya in thrall pretending to be her protector. She has a magical singing talent that he was cultivating for his own purposes.[22]

Character information[edit | edit source]

Kylre had a small pouch filled with flesh and mucus, as well as a handful of coins and jewelry, including rings and necklaces. When Jester later gave one of these recovered rings to Gustav Fletching, he noted that it looked very similar to one he'd had before.[23]

Appearances and mentions[edit | edit source]
