Keystone Pub

Hey! Welcome to the Keystone Pub! Oldest pub in the Labenda! The oldest pub in the Labenda is beneath this one, but we rebuilt it.

— Dent Bonswallow[1]

The Keystone Pub is an inn in Berleben that was under construction when the Mighty Nein visited it in 835 PD. The purveyor of this establishment for the previous ten years is Dent Bonswallow, who inherited it from his father.[2] The strongest drink available is the Labenda Throat Grog. It is the same green color as the Labenda Swamp, burns your throat, and tastes like grog. It costs about 3 copper pieces.[3]

Building description[edit | edit source]

The pub is haphazardly built on top of an older collapsed building, with a crooked 25-foot tall tower. The only way to enter it is by climbing eight-foot long rope ladders into the open archway at the top.[4]

Interior[edit | edit source]

The inside is barely lit and crowded, but still welcoming. The wooden construction is reminiscent of being on a ship's lower deck, the small number of lanterns results in several heavily-shaded areas, and a small stage was under construction in one of the right-side corners when the Mighty Nein visited. [5][6] The left side of the pub has a bar, behind which is a ladder that leads downstairs.[7]

Downstairs[edit | edit source]

Below the pub are four subterranean sleeping quarters connected by a cross-shaped hallway in the ruins of the previous establishment.[8] Two of the rooms are dry, two still have water on the floor, none have windows, and all include a bed and one small lantern.[9] Lodging costs 1 silver piece per person.[10]

History[edit | edit source]

Clientele[edit | edit source]

When the Mighty Nein visited the pub, there were six patrons present, including:

  • A gruff-looking human male fisherman[11]
  • A tough-looking bearded albino dwarf wearing a black leather vest tucked into flowy brown pants, whose scarred forearms were covered in tattoos[12]
  • Febron Keyes as a regular patron[13]
