Grenya Lorelei was a noblewoman and a member of the Lorelei family. She was mentioned by Liam O'Brien in "Liam's One Shot: 'Song of the Lorelei'" (OSx23).

    Biography[edit | edit source]

    Background[edit | edit source]

The Lorelei bloodline stretches back about three centuries, but only rose to prominence during the war between the Dwendalian Empire and the Julous Dominion. The Lorelei's proved their worth in that conflict and were gifted with a stretch of land upon which Castle Lorelei was built.[1]

During the war, the bloodline would also be changed forever. During a near-fatal encounter near the end days of the war, Alfarr Lorelei was bitten and cursed with lycanthropy. The curse burned into Alfarr's blood in a relentless fever that almost drove him mad, but he persisted.

At some point after becoming a werewolf he fathered Grenya, who was born with lycanthropy due to Alfarr's condition. She fought the curse as well, and so did her sons, and so on. Early on the family considered lycanthropy a curse, but gradually younger generations saw it as a gift to be wielded responsibly. They created a ritual known as "The Taming" to help control the inner beast and used it to help the family.[2]

When Grenya died, she was buried in the Lorelei mausoleum, where a small monument was built for her, near the one for Alfarr.[3]

Appearances and mentions[edit | edit source]

    Trivia[edit | edit source]

    • Her name seems to be a variant of Granya, the Anglicised version of Gráinne, which in turn could derive from the Scottish Gaelic term grian (sun).
    • She was the first member of her family being born as a werewolf.
