Fane-Eater is a magic battleaxe and the signature weapon of Arkhan the Cruel.
Description[edit | edit source]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
On the stat card written by Matthew Mercer, it was described as being carved from deeply cerulean sapphire, having numerous runic sigils embellishments, and feeling cold to the touch.[2]
In Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, Fane-Eater is a battleaxe with a serrated blade of dark metal. Its haft is made from a femur bone, and it has a rib-like motif.
Properties[edit | edit source]
Fane-Eater deals 2d8 slashing damage[3] and has a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls. When the wielder scores a critical hit, the target takes an extra 2d8 necrotic damage and the wielder regains hit points equal to that damage.[2]
An attuned wielder has an additional use of Channel Divinity. When the wielder reduces a Medium or larger target to 0 hit points, they can spend a use of Channel Divinity to gain temporary hit points equal to their level.[2]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
Fane-Eater was published in the book Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, where it was again wielded by Arkhan. This version of Fane-Eater lacks the properties that grant the wielder an additional use of Channel Divinity and the ability to use Channel Divinity to gain temporary hit points.[1]
