FRIDA,[fn 1] short for Far-Ranging Integrated Defense Aeormaton, is an aeormaton fighter / rogue / cleric. They are played by Christian Navarro.

Description[edit | edit source]

Official art of FRIDA, by Hannah Friederichs.[art 2]

FRIDA is a rose gold aeormaton, with a "feminine" face and Guilloché-style decorations on their plating. Unlike Fresh Cut Grass, they have legs, and are six feet tall. They wear an emerald green one-sleeved trench coat with a high collar. The symbol of the Dawnfather is etched into one of their arms. A blunderbuss gun emerges from their right arm.[6] The phrase "Far-Ranging Integrated Defense Aeormaton" is etched into the inside of their face plate.[7]

When they visited the Catlyn's Clothier, FRIDA asked to inscribe the name "FCG" in yellow and blue colors on the inside of his jacket.[8]

Personality[edit | edit source]

FRIDA believes their duty is to protect people, and is very loyal to Deanna,[9] though the two disagree considerably on theology.[10] They are excited to meet FCG, the first other aeormaton they've seen.[11] They are also very patient, and repeatedly tried to reach Chetney while the latter was in his werewolf form, having lost control.[12]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Before Campaign 3[edit | edit source]

FRIDA lived in Aeor and was woken in the Post-Divergence by D about two years before Campaign 3, set in 843 PD. They felt that their prior purpose was to record sounds, specifically the laughter of others. They met Deanna, whose laughter reminded them of the life they lived before, and began traveling with her.[9] They were fitted with a blunderbuss inside their arm by Jaquoby Macyl, an artisan and historian in Uthodurn.[13] FRIDA awoke with little recollection of their past, but each night they dream of a memory, and each time the dream becomes a little bit more detailed.[14] In mid 843 PD, Deanna went with FRIDA on an expedition to Aeor in Eiselcross. They encountered many dangers and Kryn soldiers, and decided to return before they got themselves killed.[15]

Campaign 3: Bells Hells[edit | edit source]

On their way back from Eiselcross, FRIDA and Deanna encountered Chetney, FCG, Fearne, and Imogen in a cave in the Flotket Alps, fighting a frost salamander. They decided to travel together back towards Uthodurn.[16] FRIDA was excited to meet FCG in particular, as they had not encountered another awakened Aeormaton yet.[11] In their travels, FRIDA told the party that they believed the gods wished to sleep, and were perhaps letting events unfold to make it possible to do so.[17]

After Chetney was overtaken by his lycanthropy due to the full phase of Catha, FRIDA tracked him and followed him, and attempted to help him regain control.[18] It eventually succeeded, but only after Chetney had bitten FRIDA.[19]

The night following the party's encounter with Umudara, FRIDA agreed to let FCG cast Shared Dream on them. In the dream, FRIDA floated above Exandria, and upon looking down saw themselves as having human legs. FCG, meanwhile, saw the image of a child overlaid in the same space as FRIDA.[20] The next day, FRIDA told Deanna they were developing feelings for FCG,[21] and when the two aeormatons went to Jaquoby Macyl's, FRIDA opened up to FCG and the two kissed.[22]

While the party traveled to Molaesmyr, after a comment from Chetney, FRIDA realized the implications of having been bit by a werewolf.[23] Deanna later privately asked FRIDA if they wanted her to remove the curse, but they told her they weren't sure yet.[24]

After the party left Molaesmyr, in the Savalirwood, Imogen and FCG used Detect Thoughts to try to probe into FRIDA's memory, with their permission. They remembered a fight in the halls of Aeor between citizens from different factions, in which they were told to "Defend the Factorum."[25]

FRIDA was teleported to Vol'antim in a teleportation mishap with the rest of Team Wildemount as they tried to get back to Jrusar, and while waiting for the Staff of Dark Odyssey to recharge, cast Detect Thoughts on FCG, who had nearly lost control due to stress. They gained some insight into FCG's condition, but nothing definitive.[26] Following some time in the Spire by Fire Inn in Jrusar, FRIDA, along with Deanna and Prism, left Bells Hells to go do research on Predathos. They were inwardly doubtful that they would see FCG again, but outwardly promised they'd be reunited.[27]

Character information[edit | edit source]

Notable items[edit | edit source]

  • Integrated Weapon: Blunderbuss (+2 magical weapon)[28]
  • Crossbow[29]
  • Scimitar[30]
  • Wooden figure of FRIDA, gift from Chetney[31]

Abilities[edit | edit source]

Aeormaton abilities[edit | edit source]

FRIDA is assumed to have the same following abilities that Fresh Cut Grass has an Aeormaton, in addition to the ability to record and play back sounds:[32]

  • Resistant to poison damage[33] and advantage on saves against the poisoned condition[34]
  • Doesn't require air, food, or drink[35]
  • Doesn't require sleep.[36] Rather than sleep, FRIDA enters "Stasis Mode".[37]
  • Immune to disease[38]
  • Subrace: Defense Aeormaton
    • Living Shield: As a reaction, FRIDA can impose disadvantage on attacks against another creature within 5 feet of them until the end of the turn.[39][40]

Because Aeormatons are considered the Exandrian equivalent to warforged,[41] it is also assumed they have the additional following traits from Eberron: Rising from the Last War:[42]

  • Integrated Protection: +1 AC, must spend 1 hour to integrate armor onto their body, integrated armor can't be removed unwillingly
  • Constructed Resilience: Can't be put to sleep by magic. All other features from this trait already listed above.
  • Sentry's Rest: Inert but conscious during a long rest and thus can see and hear as normal.
  • Specialized Design: Proficiency in one skill and one tool

Feats[edit | edit source]

  • Sharpshooter[43]
  • Crossbow Expert[44] (can be used to reload their blunderbuss)[45]
  • Telepathic (+1 Charisma, cast Detect Thoughts 1/Day)[46]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Official art of FRIDA's scrapped robot owl, by Hannah Friederichs.[art 3]

Christian originally intended FRIDA to be a Ranger with a Beast Companion, which would have been either his dog[63] or a robotic owl, the latter of which is still in their character art posted on Twitter. Such owl did not appear in the show.

FRIDA mechanically got a level of Rogue, since they spent time alone on the streets of Uthodurn, before FRIDA met Deanna. After FRIDA lived with Deanna for two years, they adopted her religion and became a cleric themselves.[64]

Appearances and mentions[edit | edit source]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The animation on their stat card features points sketching a radially-symmetrical image.
  • FRIDA is the second character, after Vax'ildan, to multi-class into three classes.

Notes:

  1. Episode subtitles render their name as "FRIDA" without periods, but their stat card, the @CriticalRole tweet with their portrait, and Critical Recap for 3x52 renders it "F.R.I.D.A." This article uses "FRIDA" for ease of typing.

Still They/Them but I believe FRIDA is fluid enough in their masculinity and femininity that either pro noun is fine. And their learning who they are too." (May 5, 2023) — in reply to @aFallenWolf: "IDK if you'll see this but I had a question. When we first met F.R.I.D.A. their pronouns were they/them. In the past two episodes (of them airing) Everyone uses he/him. Did they change pronouns or did everyone forget?" (backup link)
