Description[edit | edit source]

Official art of Duderonomous and Thyme, by Elaine Tipping.[art 2]

Duderonomous is an older elf, appearing to be in his early 40s, with several wrinkles folding parts of his face. His ears are less pointy in comparison to an average elf. Duderonomous' hair and mustache show signs of grey. When the Re-Slayer's Take first met him, Duderonomous wore colorful sheer robes, but slightly worn off. He put on a pink leather glove on his right hand, matching in color his pointy pink slippers.[1]

Duderonomous can be forgetful and scatterbrained.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Before The Re-Slayer's Take[edit | edit source]

Duderonomous and Timpani Guff are old friends who, as Timpani estimated, haven't seen each other since 753 PD. Timpani affectionately called him Dudey, and Duderonomous called him Timi.[1]

At one point before the Slayer's Take arrival to the Shoresight Isle, Duderonomous was possessed by the reflection aboleth. He, protecting himself from the aboleth's interference, modified his own memories—after preparing ingredients to the lost memories and writing out the brewing process on his back.[2]

The Re-Slayer's Take[edit | edit source]

In 839 PD,[3] the Re-Slayer's Take visited the Shoresight Isle to help the village with their problem with undeath. Timpani Guff explained to the party that they were called to the island by his friend Duderonomous, who said that ghosts haunted the whole town and "every ripple of the tides". As they were approaching the lighthouse, the party were met by Duderonomous who was surprised to see Timpani, having nearly forgotten he sent a message to him via seagull.[1]

After another villager passed them by and cheerfully commented on the weather, saying the exact same thing as the other in the village, "Heck of a storm we're having!". Dudey mumbled to himself about the storm as well, before telling the party they should go to the Honeycomb Inn to get out of the storm.[1] In the tavern Duderonomous took the party to a table at the back and told them that Shoresight Isle's denizens were typically cranky loners and outcasts, but over the last month, villagers kept returning from the cliffs smiling pleasantly. He told them that he's been seeing the spirit out of the corner of his eye and that the spirits wanted to take him. After researching in his library, Dudey found that around 50 to 60 years ago the Slayer's Take came to Shoresight Isle to slay a monster in the depths below the island.[1]

After Frog saw the ghostly creature and drew it in her journal, Duderonomous recognized the description and hurried the party back to the lighthouse. As they arrived, Duderonomous realized in horror that the interior wasn't his house. His head dropped, then lifted to face the party, his eyes glowing red with a third on his forehead. He spoke in a new voice, saying that the house "was mine".[1]

When the party repelled the aboleth's attack, they heard Duderonomous cry for help from the lighthouse's lantern room. He was slumped against the crystal lantern, his skin translucent. As Timpani approached to help him, Dudy told him to light the lantern, but was hit by a psychic attack that prevented him speak further. A vision of the aboleth appeared in the glass walls of the room, wracking the party with a psychic blast. As soon as the aboleth has been repelled by the party, Duderonomous awoke again and assured the party he recognized Timpani. Timpani asked Dudey to disrobe to get a better look at his condition. On his back, he saw a glowing illusory script, which read "I modified my own memory. Should I be saved, bid me drink the following: One ounce of a neglected tooth, two drops of a rainless noon, and one stiff slug of my very favorite." The Re-Slayer's Take investigated his potion cabinet and brewed the described potion. After Dudey drank it, his eyes glowed white, his memory was restored and his skin normalized.[2][4]

Duderonomous told the party that he had a pet pig named "Thyme", but he hasn't seen it in a while and the pig's disappearance was somehow connected to the reflection aboleth. Heera commiserated with Dudey and the loss of his pet, showing him a charcoal drawing depicting a younger version of herself with a pet calf. Heera said her pet has been her closest friend and she couldn't live without him. Dudey then continued explaining that the aboleth took residence in his brain, possessing Dudey and asking him for the bones that ones belonged to it. He then retrieved several aboleth bones out of his pink bag of holding, telling the party more about the aboleth and its connection to these bones.[4]

Dudey stayed at the lighthouse, preparing to shine the light at the aboleth, making it vulnerable. Frog attracted the aboleth scattering bones along the path toward the lighthouse and made several attacks at advantage, also dealing double damage, and Heera finished it.[4]

One day later, after the Re-Slayers left the isle, Duderonomous encountered members of the Slayer's Take and members of the chosen of the Spectral Hand while walking on the isle's beach. They asked him the direction to the local well, Dudey didn't told them the direction right away. Grimm Heldwell threatened him to not impede the Slayer's Take or he would take action. Dudey summoned a lightning cloud to threaten them back, saying he would struck them down to protect his friends. The chosen ones backed off, but Heldwell smiled and headed back to his boat.[4]
