Appearances

Dermot Wurder is a member of the rival adventuring party in Call of the Netherdeep. He is an NPC to be played by the Dungeon Master running the adventure.

Description[edit | edit source]

Dermot is a goblin from a poor family in Jigow, and is the twelfth son. He has been friends with Ayo Jabe since they were both very young children.[1]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Dermot is dedicated and responsible, and as a child performed many of the necessary tasks needed in his large family. He also is a loyal friend to Ayo, and after spending time as her healer during hunting trips began to study the Luxon and train with armor so that he could join her on the adventure she desired to have. He is protective of his friends, but sometimes at the cost of attending to his own needs.[1] He is generally friendly towards strangers unless they are rude to his friends, and tries to think the best of people.[4] His greatest goals are to, in addition to protecting his friends, to discover his own value and to have an incredible holy vision.[5]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Before the events of Call of the Netherdeep[edit | edit source]

Ayo and Dermot became close friends as children in Jigow.[1] Three weeks before the Festival of Merit in 836 PD, Maggie Keeneyes arrived in town, and became close friends with them as well. Irvan Wastewalker and Galsariad Ardyth joined the party not long after.[6]

Call of the Netherdeep[edit | edit source]

Dermot's first appearance during the Festival of Merit is at the maze. Maggie is trying to convince him to go through the maze since she is too large to fit, but Dermot is reluctant and doubtful that he will be able to succeed despite her guidance. He is friendly towards the player characters unless they make fun of Maggie.[4]

Throughout the adventure, Dermot remains protective and concerned for the well-being of others.[7] The challenges of the road quickly push him to further his devotion to the Luxon and his dedication to his party, and by Bazzoxan he quietly wishes they could return home to avoid further trauma.[8] As the adventure continues, he grows more and more worried about Ayo's emotional state and withdrawal, and tries as much as he can to appease her.[9] Eventually, however, he grows confident in his own abilities, having proved himself repeatedly.[10]
