Decompose is a homebrew cantrip created by Matthew Mercer as a flavor spell for Caduceus Clay.[1] It is a talent of the Clay family.[3]
Description[edit | edit source]
The caster touches the corpse of a creature and causes significant decomposition and growth of fungus, moss, and perhaps a flower or two within a minute. Notably, it does not hinder resurrection,[1] nor does it interfere with Speak with Dead.[4] It also works on recently severed parts of living bodies.[5] On a larger corpse (of an ettin) it caused vines to sprout and wrap around the body.[6]
Notable appearances[edit | edit source]
- Caduceus cast Decompose on the body of Mollymauk Tealeaf through the soil.[7]
- Caduceus rotted Algar Dyomin's severed hand to help intimidate him.[5]
- Caduceus decayed the body of a young blue dragon, Thelashas, who had been in the Folding Halls of Halas since before the Divergence.[8]
- The cantrip had little effect on demonic sludge following a battle in the Chantry of the Dawn.[9]
- Caduceus used the cantrip on mushrooms and fruit from the Blooming Grove at the Mother's Lighthouse in Nicodranas to help create his first sanctuary for Word of Recall.[10]
- FRIDA used it on the bodies of pymon firebugs.[11]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- This spell doesn't count against the number of cantrips that Caduceus knows.[12]
