Elder Barthie is a Bormodo village elder in Razora. As an NPC, he is played by Matthew Mercer.
Description[edit | edit source]
Elder Barthie has a wrinkled face that appears warm and friendly when he smiles. He has "stringy" white hair and uses a walking stick.[1] His voice and mannerisms are somewhat similar to those of Johnny Carson.[2]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Barthie is friendly towards Bells Hells but also extremely astute. He has managed to keep his distaste for the Imperium a secret from them, and in his conversation with Bells Hells showed a great deal of insight and theorizing regarding the plans of the Imperium and the Ruby Vanguard.[3]
Biography[edit | edit source]
Before Campaign 3[edit | edit source]
Barthie had been to Kreviris once in his youth.[4]
Campaign 3: Bells Hells[edit | edit source]
After Bells Hells appeared before Dono and began asking him questions, he eventually decided to lead them to Elder Barthie, whom he trusted and felt would be better able to assist them.[5] Barthie was friendly but guarded, and warmed up considerably after Chetney showed him the head of a Reiloran Juggernaut from the bag of holding.[6] He was able to answer most of the party's questions, and offered many of his own thoughts regarding the worship of Predathos on Ruidus and the effects the Imperium has had on the people of Razora.[7] His cytaa, Chu, offered a more cynical commentary throughout, though she and Barthie were clearly close.[8]
Barthie recommended Bells Hells speak to his friend Zhesh, a Reiloran Shrike affiliated with the Volition, but before they could make contact with the caravan, Willmaster Edmuda knocked on his door.[9] Following the combat that ensued, he recommended Bells Hells leave and they agreed not to reveal anything they'd discussed.[10]
Bells Hells interrogated Edmuda and the Vanguard members in Barthie's house, assuring him that he would have plausible deniability and advising he look away when they used the Quintessence Array.[11] As they were transforming into their Wind Walk forms to flee Otohan Thull, Ashton hit Barthie with their hammer, and Barthie instructed them to hit harder to make the story more believable. Ashton complied.[12]
